Lungs On Fire: 2025/26 Annual Report Now Available

The Lungs On Fire research initiative has released its latest annual report, offering an update on our five-year, CIHR-funded project investigating how wildfire smoke affects lung health across Canada.

The report covers progress across all three research aims – from understanding how smoke damages the lungs over time, to identifying who is most at risk, to learning what communities need to better protect themselves. It also highlights the work of our Knowledge Mobilization Working Group, which is actively connecting researchers with public health partners to ensure new evidence shapes real-world wildfire smoke guidance.

As part of the report, Dr. Cathy Slavik, Legacy for Airway Health and Simon Fraser University Chair in Health Communication, has developed a set of tips for communicating about wildfire smoke. It’s available both within the full report and as a standalone read.

Explore the full report and resources below to learn more about what we’ve accomplished and what’s ahead.
